The predominant fruit is the primofiore as the verdello is present on the plant only as a kit for the first fruiting; to have a showy amount of verdelli it would be necessary to adopt the so-called “dry of San Giovanni”: that is to put the citrus grove dry for a certain summer period (most of the time coinciding with the celebrations of San Giovanni Battista) thus causing water stress to the plant which, when stressed, would produce more orange blossom and consequently a final fruiting of verdelli.
Il frutto predominante è il primofiore in quanto il verdello è presente sulla pianta solo come corredo alla prima fruttificazione; per avere una quantità vistosa di verdelli sarebbe necessario adottare la cosiddetta “secca di San Giovanni”: ossia mettere l’agrumeto alla secca per un certo periodo estivo (coincidente il più delle volte con i festeggiamenti di San Giovanni Battista) provocando così uno stress idrico alla pianta che, sollecitata, produrrebbe più zagara e di conseguenza un’ultima fruttificazione di verdelli.
