The third generation

Salvatore and Silvia join the company and work alongside their father Salvo in management, developing relationships with European markets.

In the 1950s, driven by his passion for citrus growing, Salvatore Magliocco began producing lemons and vegetables in Syracuse. His entrepreneurial spirit was already strong in the post-war years, and he started marketing these products in Europe, bringing the specialties of our land to foreign markets. He later moved with his family to Schopfheim, in southern Germany, where he began importing products from Sicily. The business was very successful and he built a sales network across Lower Bavaria, yet homesickness remained strong and the desire to return to Sicily eventually outweighed his commercial success.

Trusting in his abilities and driven by love for his homeland, he returned to Syracuse and virtually started again from scratch, going back into citrus production—this time exclusively lemons—and once again becoming a trader in his place of origin. In the 1980s he was joined by his son Salvo, whose command of German made him the company’s sales director. Business grew rapidly and demand far exceeded supply, making it necessary to collaborate with trusted farms capable of supporting the strong demand for Syracuse lemons.

In 1982, driven by this strong demand for citrus fruit from the Syracuse area, the PASAM Agrumi agricultural cooperative was founded: Produttori Agricoli Siracusani Associati Magliocco. The company acquired a large facility in Via Elorina 131/A, around 5,000 m² and among the largest fruit-and-vegetable trading facilities in the Syracuse area. At the same time, commercial relationships expanded throughout Central Europe, particularly in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

In 2012 Salvo’s children, Salvatore and Silvia, joined the company. Together with their father, they continue to manage the business today. PASAM is now one of the pioneering companies in the sector still operating, always with the humility to recognize that there is something new to learn every day.
